What is the Blue Aadhaar Card and How to Apply for It?
The Aadhaar card is a unique identification document that links the biometric and demographic information of Indian residents to a 12-digit number. It is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and serves as a proof of identity and address for various purposes.
However, not all Aadhaar cards are the same. There is a special type of Aadhaar card designed for children below the age of five, called the Blue Aadhaar card or Baal Aadhaar card. Unlike the regular white Aadhaar card for adults, the Blue Aadhaar card does not require the child’s biometric data, such as fingerprints and iris scans, to be captured. Instead, it is linked to the Aadhaar number of one of the parents.
The Blue Aadhaar card is distinguished by its blue colour and has the same validity and functionality as the standard Aadhaar card. It can be used to access government schemes, verify identity and address, and facilitate domestic travel. However, the Blue Aadhaar card becomes invalid once the child turns five, and a new Aadhaar card with biometric data needs to be issued.
How to Apply for a Blue Aadhaar Card?
There are two ways to apply for a Blue Aadhaar card for your child:
- Online: You can book an online appointment at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra through the official UIDAI website. Go to the “My Aadhaar” section and click on “Book an Appointment”. Select “New Aadhaar” and enter your mobile number and captcha. Choose “Child (0-5 years)” under “Relationship with Head of Family”. Fill in the required details about your child and book an appointment at a nearby Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
- Offline: You can visit any Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Permanent Enrollment Center and inform the officials that you want to enroll your child for a Blue Aadhaar card. Fill out the Aadhaar enrollment form and submit the required documents.
What are the Documents Required for a Blue Aadhaar Card?
The following documents are required for applying for a Blue Aadhaar card for your child:
- Parent’s Aadhaar card
- Child’s birth certificate
- Address proof of parent (ration card, electricity bill, etc.)
- Two passport-sized photographs of the child (optional, can be taken at the center)
Only one parent needs to be present during the enrollment process. The parent’s biometric data will be used to authenticate the child’s Aadhaar application. The child’s photograph will be taken at the center and printed on the Blue Aadhaar card. The Blue Aadhaar card will be delivered to the registered address within 90 days of the application.
What are the Benefits of a Blue Aadhaar Card?
The Blue Aadhaar card offers several benefits for your child, such as:
- Simplified access to government schemes: Many government welfare programs and scholarships require an Aadhaar card. Having a Blue Aadhaar ensures your child’s eligibility for these benefits.
