Google, the internet giant, has started the construction of its largest campus outside its headquarters in the US. The campus, which will span 3 million square feet, is located in Gachibowli, the information technology cluster of Hyderabad. The company expects to complete the project by early 2026.
The campus will be Google’s second largest office worldwide, behind its Mountain View headquarters in California. The company acquired the 7.3-acre site in 2019 and unveiled the design of the building in April 2022. The design prioritises sustainability and energy efficiency, and aims to provide a healthy and collaborative workplace for the highly skilled tech workforce in the city.
Google has been working with the Telangana government since 2017, using its solutions to support the vision of a Digital Telangana and empower the citizens with digital skills and tools. The company also signed an MoU with the government in 2022 to extend scholarships for Google Career Certificates, support women entrepreneurs, modernise schools, and improve public transportation and agriculture with digital technologies.
The new campus will also boost the economy and the innovation ecosystem of Hyderabad, which is already home to many multinational companies and startups. Telangana’s Information Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao said he was super excited to break the ground for Google’s largest campus outside the US and praised the company for deepening its roots in Hyderabad.
