The CBSE Board has taken a commendable step to address the challenges faced by students with Type-1 diabetes during board examinations. Recognizing the importance of ensuring a conducive environment for all students, the board has issued special guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for those with diabetes.

Facilities Extended to Students with Type-1 Diabetes

The following facilities will be available to students suffering from Type-1 diabetes during the upcoming CBSE class 10 and 12 board exams:

Carrying Items in a Transparent Pouch:

  • Students are allowed to carry specific items in a transparent pouch. These items include:
    • Sugar tablets, chocolate, and candy
    • Fruits such as banana, apple, and orange
    • Snack items like sandwiches and high-protein diets
    • Medications as prescribed by their doctor
    • Clear and transparent water bottle (500 ml)
    • Glucometer with glucose testing strips
    • Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) machine, Flash Glucose Monitoring (FGM) machine, and/or insulin pumps

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):

The CBSE has issued SOPs to ensure smooth implementation of these benefits:

  • Registration and Documents:
  • During registration or submission of the Letter of Consent (LOC), students must indicate if they have Type-1 diabetes.
  • Students need to upload specific documents on the portal, including medical specialist recommendations for CGM/FGM/insulin pump usage during exams.
  • A parent’s assurance that these devices won’t pose a safety risk is also required.
  • Application Timeline:
  • Schools, students, and parents must apply within the specified schedule provided by the CBSE.
  • No requests will be considered once this schedule has passed.
  • Communication with Exam Centre:
  • Schools or students should inform the Centre Superintendent at least one day before the exam about any items the student needs to bring.
  • Arrival Time:
  • On the exam day, students must arrive at the school by 9:45 am, at least 45 minutes before the exam begins.
